The Downtown Boxing Gym Youth Program (DBG Detroit) is a free nonprofit program at 6445 E Vernor Hwy, Detroit, serving students aged 8-18 since 2007. Founded by Khali Sweeney, it operates in a repurposed 27,500-square-foot bookbinding factory. The program boasts a 100% high school graduation rate, with 98% of graduates pursuing higher education. It supports 250 students annually from 41 zip codes, providing transportation, academic tutoring, mentorship, and athletics-including boxing, ballet, and STEAM Lab activities. Students receive SAT/ACT prep, nutritious meals, and participate in community service. DBG also offers emergency family support and partners with local institutions. A new 22,000-square-foot expansion, The Constellation, will double enrollment. Recognized nationally, DBG is expanding to Buffalo, New York, in 2025. The outdoor Sports & Learning Complex features multi-sport courts, gardens, and an ice rink.
