About Victory Boxing Community Center
Victory Boxing Community Center, situated at 3009 R St in the heart of South Omaha, Nebraska, is more than just a boxing gym; it's a beacon of hope and transformation for the community's youth. Founded in 2005 by Reverend Servando Perales, this nonprofit Christian boxing club integrates Christian principles into its comprehensive boxing programs, offering a safe and structured environment for young people to learn discipline, respect, and self-control.
Initially operating out of Reverend Perales' garage, Victory Boxing quickly outgrew its humble beginnings and moved to its current location in 2007. The facility now serves approximately 45-50 kids each night, providing a vital refuge and positive outlet for youth in South Omaha. The center's mission is to provide alternatives to gangs and violence, fostering a sense of purpose and direction in the lives of its participants.
Located on R Street in South Omaha, Victory Boxing Community Center is easily accessible to residents throughout the area. Its central location makes it a convenient option for families seeking a structured after-school activity or a positive environment for their children to learn valuable life skills through the discipline of boxing.
Victory Boxing offers a comprehensive boxing training program designed for participants aged 12 and older. Training sessions are divided into youth (ages 12-18) and adult (19+) groups. The program focuses on building a strong foundation in boxing fundamentals, emphasizing conditioning, technique, and discipline. Participants engage in a variety of exercises, including jump rope, sit-ups, pushups, and medicine ball work, to improve their strength, stamina, and overall fitness.
The training regimen also incorporates heavy bag work, sparring (under careful supervision), and punch mitt sessions with experienced coaches. New participants spend their first two weeks focusing primarily on conditioning to build a solid base before progressing to more advanced techniques. Those who complete eight practices are rewarded with hand wraps, symbolizing their commitment and progress.
Discipline is a cornerstone of Victory Boxing's training philosophy. Participants are expected to follow directions, respect their coaches and fellow boxers, and maintain a positive attitude throughout the training sessions. This emphasis on discipline extends beyond the gym, encouraging participants to apply these principles in all aspects of their lives.
Victory Boxing operates as both a boxing club and a community center, offering a range of additional programs designed to support the holistic development of its participants. These programs include a Leadership Academy, computer classes, a teen game center, and planned cooking classes. The center also hosts optional biweekly Bible studies, reinforcing its commitment to Christian values and providing a space for spiritual growth.
The center expects participants to uphold Christian values, fostering a respectful and supportive environment. Female participants under the age of 18 are required to have an adult present during training sessions, ensuring their safety and well-being.
Reverend Servando Perales, the founder of Victory Boxing Community Center, brings a unique perspective and unwavering dedication to his role. A former professional boxer himself, Reverend Perales understands the challenges and temptations faced by young people in the community. Having overcome his own struggles with crime and addiction, he is deeply committed to providing a positive alternative for youth at risk.
Victory Boxing Community Center has been supported by numerous community partners including CSC Group, UPS Omaha Community Foundation, Hope Community Church, St. Andrews United Methodist Church, Flatland Church, Glad Tidings, and Bellevue Christian Center. This broad base of support reflects the community's recognition of the center's invaluable contribution to the lives of young people in South Omaha.
